Pritzker Prize 2010 : SANAA

Le Pitzker Prize 2010, la plus prestigieuse des récompenses qu’un architecte souhaite recevoir dans sa vie, récompense les 15 années de travail de SANAA (Les initiales de Sejima And Nishizawa And Associates), fruit d’une relation réussie entre Kazuyo Sejima et Ryue Nishizawa. Un véritable tandem, l’union de deux forces au service de grands projets d’architecture :

Le O-Museum in Nagano , Le musée d’art contemporain à Kanazawa (both in Japan), le pavillon de verre au Toledo Museum (Ohio), Le théâtre et le centre culturel de Almere (Almere, the Netherlands), Le nouveau musée d’art contemporain de New York (New York, NY), et le centre de formation de Rolex (Lausanne, Switzerland).

L’architecture de SANAA est essentielle dans le sens où elle se concentre sur l’essence d’un édifice, la perception de l’édifice comme un tout immuable où chaque partie contribue à donner de la force au tout, une synthèse entre le programme, le site, les personnes, les usages.

SANAA explore les matériaux contemporains et les fait vivre par des jeux de transparence, de lumière, d’ombre et de matière. SANAA cherche des réponses claires, simples à des problèmes complexes.

SANA reprend les fondement de l’architecture, le principe d’économie ( tel que l’a énoncé Alberti) pour produire une architecture simple, lisible, une esthétique de la précision.

L’idée architecturale est maîtresse du projet, et chaque détail du projet vise à répondre à cette idée maîtresse. Chez SANAA un cube doit rester un cube, une ligne, une ligne, un point, un point.

L’architecture de SANAA, par son élégance et sa précision est souvent associée à des marques de prestige tels que Rolex ou Dior.

SANAA appellent les édifices publics des "montagnes dans le paysage" soulignant ainsi le souci d’intégration de leurs édifices dans l’environnement. L’édifice et l’environnement doivent former un tout, comme les montagnes le font dans le paysage : c’est l’essence d’habiter.
