Kahn House

Original notes by CAH.

A house for a doctor's family of wife, boy and girl, off of a mountain road - the site has a commanding view of the surroundings.

The steep slope, the need for large usable flat areas , and the desire to take maximum advantage of views directed the design. The problem suggested the forward location of the structure connecting to the ground, and gave rise to the additional catapult of the cantilever. Bridge playing, dining, and social conversation areas. are in the forward portion maximizing exposure to view. Height also gives privacy, but requires broad window sill. to ease psychological impression. The sophisticated environment reflects the owners nature.
